Oldest Member of the Lost-Found Nation of Islam Passes
Sister Min Imah Shabazz, the oldest member of the Lost-Found Nation of Islam, at age 96, passed away on April 8, 2010 and was laid to rest on April 15, 2010. She was born on August 13th, 1913 in Suwannee, Georgia where she lived until shortly before her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, 4 sisters and 4 brothers. Sister Min Imah Shabazz began following the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in 1960, in Brooklyn, New York. She initially came into contact with the Honorable Silis Muhammad by getting a Muhammad Speaks Newspaper. She cut out his photo and placed it on the wall in her restaurant in Brooklyn, NY. “People would ask me who he was and I would tell them, that is what I am trying to find out,” she said. She celebrated her 95th birthday at Muhammad’s Mosque in Atlanta, Georgia and was showered with gifts from the Muslims. She loved the sisterhood, the M.G.T. or (Muslim Girls Training) where she learned to cook. Apparently she was a good student as she went on to open 3 restaurants in New York and 1 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She also loved to sew and said she had dresses that looked like they came from Saks 5th Avenue. More than anything, she loved the unity among the sisters, whom she said always helped one another, when in need or when they were ill. She was presented with a plaque commemorating her dedication and support of the Lost Found Nation of Islam in the 2nd Rise at her 95th birthday celebration. She remained a faithful member of the Lost Found Nation of Islam until her passing.
